CBG (CANNABIGEROL)

CBG

CBG

Three important definitions to start from.

  1. CBG (or Cannabigerol) is a chemical compound with its own formula (C21H32O2).
  2. CBG is a phytocannabinoid, which is a cannabinoid produced naturally from a plant. There are 146 phytocannabinoids in cannabis, each with its own characteristics.
  3. A cannabinoid is “a group of molecules with twenty-one carbon atoms, or as the set of its carboxylic acids and analogues”, words of Professor Mechoulam.

CBG, or cannabigerol, is one of the cannabinoids found in cannabis. Young cannabis plants have a higher CBG content than mature plants. This doesn't happen because the substance runs out, but because CBG is synthesized into other cannabinoids as the plant grows.

CBG is formed from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), the acidic form of CBG, and many other cannabinoids of plant origin are formed from CBGA, including CBD and THC. In particular, CBG is the precursor of many other cannabinoids, so its presence is essential for the synthesis of other useful substances present in cannabis.

Each of us has an endocannabinoid system which processes, via receptors, the benefits that each of the cannabinoids and phytocannabinoids brings to the body. The benefits of CBG on our body studied are countless and the research is still in the development phase, here are some of the most important:

  1. Cannabinoids are effective in treating dermatological conditions thanks to their anti-inflammatory properties and can inhibit the production of keratocytes, which is linked to conditions such as psoriasis. The application of CBD and CBG products to the skin can be useful in skin diseases.
  2. Cannabigerol has been shown to counteract the proliferation of bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
  3. CBG has been studied for its antiemetic properties, i.e. its ability to reduce vomiting and nausea.
  4. Huntington's syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes problems with muscle coordination and mental faculties. There is evidence that CBG could help protect neurons and preserve the brain, improving the ability to move in patients with this disease.
  5. A 2006 Italian study found that CBG and other phytocannabinoids can treat multiple cancers, such as human breast cancer.
  6. Useful in the treatment of glaucoma, thanks to its ability to lower intraocular pressure.

BRIEF HISTORY OF CBG

Cannabigerol (CBG) was first isolated in the mid-1960s by Israeli researchers Yechiel Gaoni and Raphael Mechoulam, the same scientists who discovered delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Initially, CBG was considered a secondary compound and of little interest from a pharmaceutical point of view.

Only later did scientists discover that CBG is the precursor to many other cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD. In fact, cannabis produces CBG in large quantities during the growth phase of the plant, but then converts it into other compounds through a biosynthesis process. This means that CBG is essential for the synthesis of other useful substances present in cannabis.

In recent years, CBG has attracted more and more attention from scientists and cannabis producers, thanks to its particularly interesting chemical properties and its enormous potential in the pharmaceutical field. Recent studies suggest that CBG may have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, neuroprotective and anti-tumor properties.

Overall, knowledge regarding CBG is still developing, but it seems promising for the future of research into cannabis and its therapeutic properties. There are still many issues to be resolved, such as the large-scale production of CBG and the standardization of its quality, but scientists are optimistic that the full potential of this important phytocannabinoid can be exploited.

CBG

CBG and CBD: because together they are a force

CBD and CBG are two cannabinoids that perfectly integrate their respective therapeutic properties, enhancing their effectiveness. CBD relieves chronic pain, while CBG has an analgesic effect on acute pain, thanks to its action on anandamide which improves the response of the endocannabinoid system.

The entourage effect refers to the synergistic action of various cannabis compounds, which combined together give better results and reduce the negative effects of THC such as anxiety and psychotic reactions. Thanks to the entourage effect, cannabis develops a wider and deeper range of action, reducing adverse reactions. This means that each component of the plant, from cannabinoids to terpenes, acts differently on the body and some combinations are particularly effective.

The entourage effect has been the subject of much research over the past twenty years and has been shown to reduce the negative effects of THC, improving the effectiveness of cannabis as a therapeutic treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CBG?

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a compound extracted from the cannabis/hemp plant, known to interact with the endocannabinoid system of the human body. CBG is a phytocannabinoid, which is a cannabinoid produced naturally from a plant.Answer

How should I adjust the dosage?

The response to the effects of CBG varies considerably from person to person and can be influenced by the route of intake and the amount used. Determining the ideal dosage requires gradual individual adjustment. Many suggest starting with a low dose and carefully monitoring response. If necessary, it is advisable to gradually increase the dosage until the desired level of benefits is achieved. It is strongly recommended that you consult a medical professional for personalized guidance in determining the dosage best suited to your needs

Is CBG addictive?

Currently, there is no scientific evidence to suggest risks of physical dependence or abuse related to CBG intake, either in animal or human studies.
